Vericom Donates To The ITDRC To Equip Deweyville ISD With Updated Technologies Post-Flood

VERICOM GLOBAL SOLUTIONS DONATES TO THE ITDRC TO EQUIP
DEWEYVILLE ISD WITH UPDATED TECHNOLOGIES POST-FLOOD 

Knoxville, TN: In March, the town of Deweyville, Texas was hit by a historic and catastrophic flood. The nearby Sabine River reached over 30 feet, devouring homes, churches, government buildings, and even the town's library. In the aftermath of the flooding, Deweyville's needs were many, including resources to restore its technology infrastructure. This was especially true for the Deweyville Independent School District, which experienced an estimated $12.5 million worth of damages from the disaster. Understanding the severity of the situation, the Texas Department of Emergency Management Voluntary Agency Liaison (VAL) reached out to the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC) for help.

The ITDRC is a national non-profit organization founded in 2008 to provide communities with necessary resources to continue operations and recover their technology infrastructure from disaster. Members of the ITDRC traveled to Deweyville to offer their support and spent nearly a month increasing network capacity and sourcing, repairing, imaging, and deploying more than 250 donated computers to the Deweyville Independent School District. They later returned to install a network infrastructure and establish a communications link between the high school and a newly-constructed temporary elementary campus, totaling over $100,000 worth of work.

“We installed nearly 5 miles of cable, thanks to donations from industry partners like Vericom, DISH, and the SBCA,” said Joe Hillis, Operations Director for the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center. “I’m so proud of everyone who contributed time, materials, and gallons of sweat to make this project a success.”
