New Product Alert: Plenum-Rated Fire Alarm Cable
Published: July 1, 2025

We’ve added new plenum-rated fire alarm cables to our lineup — built for jobs where safety codes require fire-rated wiring in ceilings or ducts. These come in two versions (2-conductor and 4-conductor) and are ready to go for commercial or residential installs.
They’re plenum-rated, which means they meet strict fire safety standards for areas where air moves through the building — like drop ceilings or ventilation spaces.
2-Conductor Plenum-Rated Fire Alarm Cable
Sizes: 14 AWG, 16 AWG, or 18 AWG
Wire Colors: Black and Red
Use this for simple connections between devices like alarms, panels, or sensors.
- Red outer jacket is plenum-rated (FPLP)
- Safe for ceiling spaces or air ducts
- 300V rated
- Handles cold or warm conditions (-4°F to 167°F)
- Comes in 1,000 ft spools
Real-World Example: You’re connecting a smoke detector to a control panel in a drop ceiling. You only need one pair of wires to send the signal. This 2-conductor cable gets the job done cleanly and meets code for plenum spaces.
Learn More4-Conductor Plenum-Rated Fire Alarm Cable
Sizes: 16 AWG or 18 AWG
Wire Colors: Black, Red, Brown, Blue
Use this when you need more connections in one cable — like combined alarm and signal wires.
- Same FPLP rating and temp range
- Also 1,000 ft spools
- Ideal for cleaner installs with fewer runs
Real-World Example: You’re installing a smoke detector that also includes a strobe or relay function. Instead of running two separate cables, you use a 4-conductor to handle both the alarm and control signals in one pull — less mess, fewer wires, same code compliance.
Learn MoreWhat’s “Plenum” and Why Does It Matter?
Plenum-rated cables (FPLP) are made for air-handling spaces — places like:
- Drop ceilings
- Raised floors
- Open return ducts
If a fire happens, these cables give off less smoke and slow down flames. That’s why fire code requires them in certain spaces.
Real-World Example: You’re wiring a multi-story building. Use riser cable to run vertically between floors. When you get to the drop ceiling on each floor, switch to plenum cable to connect devices. That keeps everything up to code and safe.
Need Riser-Rated Cable Instead?
We’ve got that, too! Our FPLR riser-rated fire alarm cable is designed for runs between floors or inside walls where plenum rating isn’t required. If you’re not running through air-handling spaces, riser cable might be the better fit.
